With more than 20 years of experience managing vegetation and soil health as a research agronomist, Derek has worked with independent landowners and corporate operations to maximize short and long-term crop outputs while protecting the integrity of the soil. Farmers now have another resource to apply agrochemicals using spraying drones. Derek understands the time-sensitivity farmers face to administer the right application to boost yields. From a research perspective, Derek can analyze data and develop a customized approach based on numerous factors such as moisture levels and if weeds or insects are present, precisely in the locations needed.

Living and working in the Prairie Pothole Region of SD, IA, MN, NE and ND, Derek has watched as wind farms have changed the landscape and provide a valuable source of renewable energy. Regular inspection of turbine towers and blades is critical to maintaining the lifespan of each turbine.

Using drones is a cost-effective solution to manage pests and reduce harm to the environment and humans. Early outbreak detection to stop pests from becoming established is important to prevent crop losses. As a research agronomist, Derek can monitor and identify pest hotspots to provide localized applications.

As a lover of the outdoors, Derek can be found coaching on youth soccer and baseball fields, wrangling walleyes from his boat, playing the back 9, or sitting in a tree stand scanning for horns. Managing recreational spaces for pests and weeds increase the overall enjoyability.
